From the many professional retrainers operating throughout the UK, these are the ones who have applied for recognition by RoR of their service.  However, they have not been vetted by RoR except for the RoR consultants Fred and Rowena Cook of Equine Management & Training.

 

Tim Billington

Experience:  Tim has retrained various ex-racehorses including Blue Java, Champion at HOYS 2010 and winner of the RoR class as the Royal Windsor Show 2010.  Blue Java is also competing in dressage classes.  Another notable retrained ex-racehorse is Scuba who is competing in novice one-day events.  Tim has also bred winners at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood. 

 

Facilities:  60 acres of free-draining light soil over chalk pastures with post and rail or hedge fencing.  30 boxes in an American Barn type building with indoor school and horse-walker.  In addition to an outdoor arena, three-furlong wood-chip gallop, schooling and showjumping fences.

Hayley Bishop

Experience:  Hayley has worked with horses for over 24 years, from pony club to BSJA Grade B and Medium Dressage (trained to Medium Advanced).  She has bred and shown inhand and under saddle M&M’s, sport horses, TB for Ridden horse and Hack classes.  She has retrained three of her own ex-racehorses and a few for other people, in addition to numerous other horses for clients and herself.  She has also bred thoroughbed horses for Eventing and Dressage, and stands a thoroughbred stallion at the stud.  Hayley is currently getting her BHSAI and Stage 4.

 

Hayley specialises in Show jumping, Dressage and Showing, plus also competes in Endurance. She has had clients who buy horses from the sales, who are looking for all rounders, eventer prospects and dressage horses. Plus I have clients wanting to participate in the ex-racehorse showing classes, or just to be an owner, watching their horse be ridden by someone else but getting the benefit of attending shows and events.

 

Facilities:  40 acres of slightly hilly, dryish land in the Exe Valley, with post and rail/electric fencing, and 20 stables.  An outdoor school, showjump and cross country fences, horse-walk and solarium.  Great off-road hacking.

Both Fred and Rowena Cook have extensive experience and expertise working with all types of horses from the various equestrian disciplines whether it be ground training, backing, schooling and jumping young horses or re-schooling and corrective training for older horses. Over recent years more and more horses off the track have benefited from their retraining and progressive schooling programmes, subsequently taking up new lives hunting, show jumping, eventing, dressage etc.

Kathryn and Scott Dobson

Experience:  Kathryn and Scott Dobson specialise in retraining racehorses for any discipline from hacking to eventing.  Over the past five years they have re-schooled around 200 ex-racehorses.  They do their very best to provide all their horses with experienced caring homes.  Both have worked in the industry for over 15 years and have ridden on the flat.  Kathryn worked for Karl Burke for 15 years on the yard and in the office, Scott still works in racing and is a freelance amateur jockey.   

Facilities:  All the horses are at the Richmond Equestrian Centre livery yard which has excellent facilities.  This includes an indoor and outdoor school, outdoor arena, cross country and show jumping fences, horse walker, hot wash box, all year turnout.  Use of 10 stables, with 130 acres of post and rail paddocks.

Jason Edmunds

Experience:  Jason has re-homed for most disciplines including eventing, dressage, showjumping, hacks and polo.  Clients come to him by 'word of mouth' and he keeps a register of names.  Previously he was in racing for over 20 years, riding as a jockey for 12 years with many winners before retiring due to a knee injury in 2008.

 

Facilities:  quiet rural setting with plenty of off-road hacking, outdoor arena, horse walker, gallops, showjump fences, post and rail paddocks, access to spa and cross-country fences within walking distance.  10 acres.

Experience: Jo uses natural horsemanship techniques and is a recommendd associate through Intelligent Horsemanship (Kelly Marks).  She has had over 20 years experience of bringing on young horses and remedial horses, and achieved success with those who have passed through several homes as well as those deemed 'not fast enough'.  Horses have gone onto compete at BYEH 4 & 5 year old qualifiers, BE Eventing Intro & Pre Novice, as well as affiliated and unaffiliated dressage, others have gone on to be pleasure horses.

Erin Niering

Experience: Erin has 20+ years experience in the racing industry as a work rider and trainer of point to pointers, as well as pre-training for National Hunt, backing and breaking youngsters.  All ex- racehorses are retrained for the wider riding horse market.  Each individual horse is assessed to decide which discipline would best suit that horse for the future, and a re-training program is carried out to suit. More than 25 ex-racehorses have been retrained in the past several years for many disciplines including hunting, showing, show jumping, eventing, riding club and hacking.

Pammy Stevenson

Experience:  Pammy has retrained many racehorses and enjoys the retraining aspect as the whole outcome is the best feeling in the world.  She has had a career with horses since she left school and has never left the industry.  She offers assistance in all aspects, teaching, riding and schooling young horses. She has retrained at least 35 horses and at present runs a livery yard of 20 horses.
