Overview
In the RoR/SEIB Retrained Racehorse Challenge, the thoroughbreds are asked to jump a small course of fences. This is followed by an individual freestyle show, and then the conformation of the horse is judged. Horses are NOT ridden by the judge.
All RoR qualifying classes will be open to ex-racehorses that have 'RACED' only. Horses must also be registered with RoR and with Weatherbys in the General Stud Book. Horses must be mares or geldings four-years-old or over and of any height. Riders must be 15 years old or over. Horses to be ridden in any suitable bridle and should be plaited. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.
The first three from each qualifier in 2011 go forward to the Final held at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on 13th May 2012. Please note, qualifiers must enter Royal Windsor Horse Show under usual entry procedure. The first three from each qualifier in 2012 go forward to the Final held at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May 2013. Prizes for the championship will include a Challenge Trophy presented by the Balding family and other prizes in kind. There will also be a prize for the highest placed veteran 15 years or over.
The class will be judged 40% on jumping a mixture of 8 rustic/coloured fences. 20% style while jumping and performance. 20% awarded for individual show, and 20% conformation and suitability to be retrained. The marking system is:
PHASE 1
Jumping to be judged:
8 rustic/coloured jumps maximum height of fences (3’0”)
The following points to be deducted at the end of each jumping round: 3 points to be deducted for a knock down. 4 points to be deducted for a refusal.
40 marks maximum (5 each fence)
20 extra marks style and performance while jumping.
PHASE 2
Class returns without boots and judged for an individual show/conformation.
(In some classes, at the judge’s discretion, horses might be asked to do a ‘show’ following their jumping without leaving the ring. This is often the case with a large number in the class.)
Each horse to complete an individual show. Show to include the following movements: Trot, canter serpentine, extended canter (gallop), halt and stand, walk off on long rein. Total marks out of 20 (to include performance, amount of retraining, suitability to diversify).
Each horse to be presented in front of the judge for conformation and suitability to be retrained. Total marks 20. Racing injuries will be overlooked.
