In 2007 the RoR amalgamated with the Racehorse Owners Association charity, Emergency Relief for Thoroughbreds (ERT).

RoR now also has responsibility for those rare cases when former racehorses are found to be neglected, ill-treated or sick.

It will consider providing financial assistance for horses that have raced under the Rules of Racing (including Point to Point) or have been in training in Great Britain, which are found in a poor state of health and, on veterinary advice, are in need of immediate attention.

Funds will be made available to contribute to the costs of transport to a suitable location for immediate care, veterinary assessment and care, as well as general management and keep costs. If no long term solution is found for the horse’s welfare, and if recommended by a veterinary surgeon, euthanasia may also be considered.
