Learning with RoR: How our educational events are supporting former racehorses and their owners
At Retraining of Racehorses (RoR), we believe that every former racehorse deserves the chance to thrive in a new life after racing. Education plays a key role in making this happen — not just for the horses, but for the owners who care for them too.
This blog takes a look at what we’ve been up to — and what’s coming up — in the world of RoR education.
Who are our events for?
Our events are designed for anyone who loves and supports former racehorses, and those curious to learn more about the world of retraining, including:
- First-time and prospective owners
- Existing RoR members, both free and competition
- Coaches and other equestrian professionals requiring CPD
- Horse lovers who want to learn more about life after racing
A year of growth and engagement
So far this year in launching our new educational offering we’ve delivered 98 educational opportunities to riders, owners, and supporters across the country, reaching over 825 attendees, across a range of events and camps. These numbers reflect growing interest in giving former racehorses and their owners the best possible futures — and that’s exactly what RoR is here for.

Racing Insight Days
Curious about how your horse might have lived while in training? Our Insight Days offer a rare chance to visit working yards, go behind the scenes, and meet trainers who care deeply about the horses' journey — both during and after racing.
These events are all about building an understanding of how former racehorses are looked after during their first career, so that we can help them successfully transition into a second career.

Agria RoR Unmounted Social Education Events
Sometimes the best learning happens over a cup of tea and a good chat. Our new series of unmounted events, supported by Agria, are designed to bring owners together in a relaxed, informal setting. Think of it as a friendly community event — with expert guidance on a chosen topic, which could be anything from nutrition to behaviour, and farriery to rider mindset.
With at least 24 of these events planned across the UK in 2025, there’s sure to be one near you.
