news Retraining of Racehorses partner with BEDE Events

26th April 2024

Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is pleased to confirm a new partnership with BEDE Events that will run alongside the previously announced Highest Placed Amateur initiative for 2024.

The partnership recognises British Eventing competitors who are competing on former racehorses registered with RoR, with Highest Placed RoR awards available for registered horses for each section. In addition, those competing in the Agria BE100 and Arena Saddles Novice League, will be in the running for additional prize bundles, to be presented at Osberton International at the end of the season.

Awards will be issued across all BEDE Events sections running from BE80 to CCI3*.

Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is British Racing’s official charity devoted to safeguarding the wellbeing of former racehorses. This is achieved through various preventative measures, including:

  • Setting industry standards for retraining former racehorses.
  • Providing training and education to owners to build lifelong partnerships with their retired racehorses.
  • Promoting the versatility of these horses in various equestrian activities and facilitating their participation in competitions.
  • Maintaining a robust tracking system for former racehorses through RoR membership.

RoR also extends support to former racehorses in times of need through its welfare safety net.

David Catlow, Managing Director of RoR said: “We are delighted to launch this initiative in partnership with BEDE Events, offering recognition for RoR members taking part in all of their events. This partnership not only enhances the calendar of competitions for former racehorses to take part in at all levels, but also underscores BEDE’s support for our cause. We would like to express our thanks to BEDE Events for their commitment to enhancing opportunities for retired racehorses.”

BEDE Director, Stuart Buntine commented: “We’re all about creating opportunities for competitors, whether this is by the introduction of new events or creating initiatives such as this. We want to reward riders for their hard work in producing horses to compete and our new partnership with RoR goes a little way to supporting that aim. We look forward to welcoming RoR’s to our events across the remainder of the season.”
