Retraining of Racehorses (RoR), a leading charity dedicated to the welfare and retraining of retired racehorses, is delighted to announce Zara Tindall as its new Patron.

Zara, a renowned equestrian and dedicated advocate for equine welfare, brings her passion and expertise to support RoR's mission to safeguard the wellbeing of all former racehorses.

Zara said: "I am delighted to be joining Retraining of Racehorses as a patron. The charity’s commitment to the well-being and retraining of retired racehorses resonates with my lifelong love for these magnificent animals. I look forward to working with RoR to promote their cause and helping them to make a positive impact in the racing and equine communities."

Managing Director of RoR, David Catlow, said: "We are thrilled that Zara has agreed to be our new Patron. Her extensive experience in the equestrian world, coupled with her dedication to racing, make her an ideal advocate for our charity. Together, we aim to raise awareness, funding, and support to ensure that retired racehorses receive the care and opportunities they deserve."

Zara Tindall is an accomplished equestrian, including winning silver at the London Olympics in 2012, and achieving Individual Eventing World Champion status with team silver and individual and team European Championship Gold medals. Additionally, Zara’s involvement with racehorses and directorship at Cheltenham racecourse demonstrate her significant connections to racing.

Zara's patronage was officially announced at Cheltenham's November 2023 meeting on Saturday the 18th. As part of the RoR Parade, Zara graciously accepted a cheque on behalf of RoR from Sir Martin Broughton, derived from the proceeds of his book, Whenever I Hear That Song.

Notes to Editors

Retraining of Racehorses

Founded in 2000, Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is British Horseracing's official charity for the welfare of horses who have retired from racing. We believe every former racehorse deserves a life well lived, throughout every stage of their life.

This year (2023) RoR is spending over a million pounds on direct support for horses, through its Vulnerable Horse Scheme (for horses that fall on hard times later in life) and for horses that require more professional assessment and retraining support on their first step out of racing. As well as providing training and support for new owners as they take on former racehorses.
