RoR Chief Executive guests on ‘Inside the Rails’ podcast
The latest edition of the ‘Inside the Rails’ podcast includes an exclusive interview with RoR Chief Executive, Di Arbuthnot in which she talks about her background and upbringing as well as her role with British racing’s official aftercare charity.
‘Inside The Rails’ is a popular podcast hosted by Phil Boyle of BG Racing and Simon Double, Racing Manager for Solario Racing. The podcast promotes the experience of owning a share in a racehorse and gives listeners information about what it is like to become an owner and the different options available to get involved.
During her interview with Phil and Simon, Di Arbuthnot talked about her own story, that of a farmer’s daughter who was “pony mad” and went on to ride successfully as an amateur jockey and was then instrumental in the setting up of Retraining of Racehorses back in 2000.
For every racehorse owner, whatever percentage of a horse they own, a key responsibility is determining what path the horse should take once its racing career is over.
Di Arbuthnot explained what help and advice RoR provides to those who are looking to re-home a racehorse and to those who have taken on a former racehorse. She went on to clarify that RoR does not take in the horses themselves, rather it has created a demand for former racehorses in the wider equestrian market through the creation of equestrian events that allow retired racehorses to show their skills in a range of equestrian discipline.
Showing, dressage, eventing, polo, hunting, showjumping and polocrosse, are just some of the many different equestrian disciplines which racehorses can go on to pursue when their racing career has come to an end.
Di Arbuthnot said: “They’re incredibly versatile and intelligent, which is why they can adapt to a new way of life.” And she shared with the listeners a host of famous former racehorses who have found a new lease of life, including those that recently participated in RoR parades at Cheltenham and Newbury.
