Success for the Scottish Dressage Championships
On Sunday 2nd October 2022, the RoR Regional Scottish Dressage Horse Championships took place at Ian Stark Equestrian Centre, in Selkirk.
The new regional format was designed to encourage regional participation and earlier this year, we have seen three RoR Regional Championships taking place in the North, Wales and Southern areas. This event is a qualifier for the RoR National Dressage Championships at Aintree International Equestrian Centre, in August 2023.
The Championships kicked off with the Introductory and it was Lynsey Smith and the 5-year-old gelding Been Bobbied, formerly trained by Richard Fahey who were crowned the 2022 champions. Sophie Pinguey and Mickle Bower finished in second and third went to Kirsty Harker and Carlitos Bay.
The strongly contested Prelim Championships was won by Gwen Lindsay and Blue Kascade, who retired from racing in early 2021. Now 15-years-old, Blue Kascade was formerly trained by Sandy Thomson where he ran in a total of 45 races and generated over £46,000 in prize money throughout his career.
Rachel Robson aboard Extreme Appeal were the Prelim runners up with Janine Midgley and Shootingsta, finishing in third.
Novice victory went to Cindy Fisher and Arms Around Me, a 10-year-old by Lope De Vega who started his racing career with top class racehorse trainer Bryan Smart, before moving to James Given where he retired in 2021.
Finishing in a close second in the Novice Championship were last year’s champions, Croft Allure and Amy Brown with Douglas Crawford and Heers Tae Us securing third.
The final Championship of the day was the Elementary which was won by Virginia Grant and Wayne Manor, a 13-year-old gelding who was previously trained by Lucinda Russell before retiring in 2014. Sarah Raw and Danny’s Best were reserve and the combination of Croft Allure and Amy Brown in third.
RoR Chief Executive, Di Arbuthnot said: “Huge thanks to Ian Stark Equestrian Centre for kindly hosting this event and to the judges, stewards and the rest of team. All our competitors enjoyed themselves with the standards always improving, members travelled from as far as West Yorkshire and Perthshire to attend.
