Kingman and Gleneagles head list of nominations for Tattersalls Charity Auction in aid of RoR
A total of 13 lots on offer, including five from Cheveley Park Stud
A charity auction of stallion nominations, including Kingman and Gleneagles, is to be hosted by Tattersalls on the eve of the December Mares Sale. The proceeds from the auction will go to British racing’s own charity for the welfare of retired racehorses, Retraining of Racehorses (RoR).
The champagne reception and auction will be held in the sales ring at Tattersalls, Newmarket on Sunday 3rdDecember. The event will be compered by Nick Luck and the nominations will be auctioned by the Chairman of Tattersalls, Edmond Mahony.
The stallion nominations included in the auction vary in value from £5,000 to £55,000 and are headed by Kingman, Juddmonte Farm’s four-time Gr.1 winning miler. Kingman’s first crop of yearlings at public auction have sold for up to 1.7 million guineas and he is the leading first crop sire in Europe and North America by yearling average at over £244,000.
Also on offer is a nomination to Gleneagles, who stands at Coolmore. A dual Guineas winner at three, Gleneagles was also a Gr.1 winner as a two-year-old. A son of Galileo, Gleneagles is out of the mare, You’resothrilling, who is a full-sister to Giant’s Causeway, triple champion sire in North America.
Cheveley Park Stud have generously donated nominations to five of their stallions; Garswood, Twilight Son, Lethal Forceand Mayson, all of which boast Gr.1 successes on the track, and Dutch Art, the sire of Gr.1 winners Garswood and Slade Power.
Breeders can also bid for nominations to Adaay, the only son of Kodiac at stud in the UK, Bobby’s Kitten, the first son of Kitten’s Joy to stand in Europe, Hot Streak, the best two-year-old sprinter of his generation, Ivawood, the leading first season sire in 2014, Mukhadram, winner of the Gr.1 Eclipse Stakes, and Time Test, the four-time Group winning son of Dubawi.
Di Arbuthnot, Chief Executive of RoR, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the studs farms who have shown their support for the charity by donating nominations to stallions. As a result of their generosity, the range of stallions on offer means there is something of interest for all breeders.
“Special thanks must go to Edmond Mahony and the Board of Tattersalls for their support and for hosting the event on the eve of one of the biggest sales in Europe. There is increasing awareness amongst the auction houses and breeders of the work RoR does in providing fulfilling second careers for thoroughbreds when their racing days are over. As we all know, not every horse gets to retire to stud.”
Edmond Mahony, Chairman of Tattersalls, said: “In association with RoR, we are delighted to be hosting such a prestigious event on the eve of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale. Tattersalls has sponsored the ‘The RoR Thoroughbred Show Horse Series’ for more than 10 years and supporting this new charity auction of nominations emphasises our commitment to such an important cause. The stallion farms have been enormously generous in their support of the event and it looks set to be an enjoyable and worthwhile curtain raiser to Europe’s premier breeding stock sale.”
The champagne reception gets underway at 5.30pm with the auction of nominations from 6.15pm, for more information on the auction lots and to make a bid, please email: pgilmore@ror.org.uk
